boys 'n' their toys

Someone is always bringing horses to Dave to break. About a month ago, a friend of his brought a team of clydes. I love clydes but these two are young, lanky and pretty ugly if you ask me. To me they look like paint horses. But that's just my opinion and it must not be right because just tonight Dave said, "boy, don't they look good?" hmmm... what do I know about horses?!

Here is their first time out in harness...

they look pretty good and they're in step...

here is my sweetheart doing what he loves...

look close...you can see Blue riding.  Blue LOVES to ride!

and here is what Dave got for Christmas from Shelby & Mike...
now he can drive and not miss out on games or races!

However, last weekend, Blue had jumped off the skid and Dave took off driving.  I could hear Blue yap-yapping and when I looked out to see why he was yapping, he was running behind Dave.  Of course, Dave couldn't hear Blue because he had his headphones on.  Live and learn, Blue.

Here they are being pretty playful.   Boys.  They do this all.day.long.

And here is what happens when boys will be boys...and you're standing too close.  This isn't the first time this has happened and it surely won't be the last.  Men and their toys.

Ouch.

just a little sugar high

Maci (aka Wild Thing) spent the night last weekend. This gives mommy a chance to have mommy-Maddie time and then when Maddie stays with gramma, mommy can have mommy-Maci time. Maci is constantly on.the.go. She is always wanting to do something. She wanted to make something.  So we made something...

Can you tell what it is?

Here's a little hint:

When I was little there were three things my nana let me have UNLIMITED amounts of...
peanut butter, maraschino cherries and SPRINKLES!  So here is Maci eating just a few sprinkles before we got started.

And here is Maci helping to make what she wanted to make!  Sugar cookies.

Of course, licking the beaters was the main thing she wanted to do...

and then the decorating...the red hots are for mommy...

she only used one whole bottle of red hots on two cookies!

Ahhh....can you feel the high?!  I love this wild thing so much.

She makes my heart sing.

guess who got glasses!?

Yep, big M got glasses last week! This was her first day with her new glasses. She was pretty proud and loves wearing them.

On Saturday night, gramma had a sleepover with Maddie {or is it Maddie had a sleepover with gramma?}.  We went shopping during the day on Saturday, had lunch at one of our favorite places and then Maddie got to come home with me afterward.   We chalked the afternoon away and then had a pretty uneventful evening...she was in bed early and up early.  Here she is before church...

and here she is showing off her beautiful green/blue/gray eyes.

Maddie, I think you look beautiful in your new glasses!

"I have four best fwends"

Last week was little m's preschool program. It seems like yesterday it was big M's program! It's so cute to see all the little ones parade in and stand on the stage singing their songs. They sang, then we had refreshments and then toured the preschool room. Here are my favorite photos from the night and little m's "four best fwends,"  mnm, g and s.

p.s.  to the mama of mnm... i do hope i got a picture of each and not two pictures of the same m!  :)

he's sprouting up!

Shelby's father-in-law, Ric, raises lilies and we have been the fortunate recipient of some of the most gorgeous lilies ever! This is my special lily that I have been waiting to see. It's just starting to sprout up and I cannot wait to see it in all its glory! This is the lily named after Ric's first grandson (and ours!), Luke Finley Adams.

all good things...

...must come to and end.

The girls stopped by before church to say good-bye to our Adams family.  It's rare we get to see all three of our favorite people together in one place.  Grampa and I so enjoyed this!

the teething continues...

you can almost feel how bad he hurts...

one last shot...

Dear Luke:  Grampa and I loved e.v.e.r.y. minute of your visit!
Dear mama and daddy:  Thank you for trusting us to take care of Luke.  We know how hard it was for you to leave him.  We're pretty proud of ourselves.  We still have the touch.

The first week of May, grampa and I are headed to Chicago to watch Luke again.  Mommy will be in LA and daddy will be in Texas.   Luke's first birthday will be the day we come home so we are hoping to get a mini lunch celebration in before we head home.  Then the following week, which just happens to be Mother's Day weekend, we will join Luke's other nana and papa and aunties and cousins back in Chicago for the BIG birthday bash!

We can't wait!

celebrate

Last Saturday was the day we celebrated M&m's birthdays together. Maddie spent the night with us on Friday so Saturday morning Amber and Maci came over for breakfast. Grampa, Uncle Mike and Amber left mid morning to assemble M&m's birthday present.

so...in the meantime, Shelby braided Maddie's hair...

the girlies took a snooze...

Maddie read to Luke...

Luke had a snack...

and then it was time to party!
The girls got lots of presents...

Surprise!   This is the BIG one!

Maci called it the "jumping board"

mommy showed the girls how it's done...

then auntie Shelby got in on the action...

Luke watched...totally not interested

what a cutie pie...

and this was his FIRST time touching grass!  He has no grass in his yard in the city...and I think it's a good thing...he didn't especially like the grass so much

Auntie A and Luke

birthday girls

grampa had to see what kind of moves he had...

and gramma had no moves...one bounce and I was on my back...
but only after my legs flew over my head and I seriously thought I was going to keep bouncing right off that "jumping board" onto the ground!

then we went inside and had cake and ice cream...

Happy birthday to my sugarplums!
