signs of alzheimer's

Every night as I soak in my tub of steaming hot water, I listen to the radio. One show I like to listen to is The John Tesh Show- Intelligence for Your Life.

Tonight John was actually advertising a service for seniors with Alzheimers disease and how to tell if they are in need of help. He asked the following questions:

When you visit your parents, are there stacks of books or newspapers that haven't been taken out in awhile? uh, oh..... check.

When you visit your parents, look on shelves and on the top of the refrigerator... is there a layer of dust? check. check... I'm not looking so good...but, hey, I'm short...

When you visit your parents, look in the refrigerator. Is there spoiled food? check. check. check.. uh oh...

John Tesh says if you can answer yes to all these questions, perhaps "your senior is in need of some help around the house." Is he serious???

Actually, this senior works full time and I think there are better things to do (babysitting, blogging, reading) than cleaning.

I do have a funny story about spoiled food in the refrigerator though. When Amber was little... probably Maddie's age, she came to me once and said, "mommy, why do you have a dead rabbit in the refrigerator?" I can see the commitment papers being filed...

Well, it wasn't a dead rabbit, of course, but if having a bit of spoiled food in your fridge means you might be on your way to Alzheimer's, I believe I better change my ways.

There are worse things than having a dead rabbit in the 'fridge....right?

Uh oh... If that's all it takes, you better bring me the straight jacket...

My friend has told me that her sons use this rule. First sign of drool and she's in a home... They're in their 20s now, the boys.

That's funny - and so funny how "seniors" are analyzed these days... heck, I sometimes drool in my sleep! I'm sure I should be put away according to some people. :) Actually, it's kinda fun being considered a senior is some circumstances... like a 15% discount at Pamida!
